Course Overview

What this course is designed to develop

This course walks through every stage of audio post-production used by professional sound editors: cleaning noisy location recordings, sculpting tone with EQ, controlling dynamics with compression and limiting, and delivering files that meet LUFS targets for streaming and broadcast. You will work with real-world session examples in Audacity, Adobe Audition, and Reaper, learning the underlying signal-processing principles so the skills transfer across any DAW. By the end, you will be able to take any recorded track — podcast interview, voiceover, dialogue — and deliver a polished, standard-compliant file with confidence.

Learning Outcomes

What the learner should be able to understand, build, or execute.

01

Apply broadband noise reduction and spectral repair to remove hiss, hum, clicks, and room ambience from recorded dialogue

02

Design EQ curves that enhance intelligibility and warmth without introducing harshness or mud

03

Configure compression settings — threshold, ratio, attack, release, knee — to control dynamic range for speech content

04

Build a complete post-production signal chain with de-essing, gating, limiting, and loudness normalization

05

Export deliverables that conform to platform loudness standards including -16 LUFS (podcasts), -23 LUFS (EBU R128), and -14 LUFS (streaming)

06

Diagnose common audio problems by ear and select the appropriate processing tool to fix them
